| The Stafford Music Academy has joined the National Federation of Music Clubs, allowing students of the academy to join the Junior Music Club and participate in the Junior Music Festivals. What is the Junior Music Club? The “Friday Musicale” Junior Music club is a local chapter of the National Federation of Music Clubs. Students of the Junior Music Club meet once per month to perform pieces for each other in a casual environment. It is a wonderful opportunity for piano students to meet each other, and get used to performing! In addition, there are often guest speakers at the meetings. For example, at a recent club meeting, Stafford Music Academy's own Christopher Stafford gave a short presentation on the use of music in movies. Who can join the Junior Music Club? All piano students of the Stafford Music Academy are eligible to join the Junior Music Club, where they will be divided by ages into four groups. Each group meets on the second Sunday of each month, but at a separate location from the other groups. • The “Grace Notes” Club is for grades K-3 • The “B-Natural” Club is for grades 4-5 • The “Harmony” Club is for grades 6-8 • The “Lyric” Club is for grades 9-12 What are the costs? For membership in the “Friday Musicale” Junior Music Club, each student pays annual dues of only five dollars. This covers the monthly club meetings, but not participation in the Spring Festival (see below). Additionally, the student’s teacher must be a member of the National Federation of Music Clubs (all piano teachers at the Stafford Music Academy are members). What is the Spring Festival? Students who are members of the Junior Music Club are eligible to sign up for the Spring Festival, which will take place in March of 2008. Students may enter any number of events including solo piano, hymn, patriotic song, theory, composition, improvisation, piano duets, and so on! Students pay $1 to participate in the Festival, in addition to $7.50/event. For each event, students receive an evaluation, rating their performance from 1 (needs improvement) to 5 (Superior). Students receive cups based on the total number of points they have accumulated over the years. We will have more detailed information regarding this Festival beginning in January. |
